Going to be refinishing oak flooring to a darker color...looking for recs on stains...
Minwax oil stains. Many colors to choose from.

The one I used was called Early American and they came out great. I used on floors, doors, and woodwork trim.
We used Minwax oil based stain (cherry) on our new red oak floors and it looks great.
Sherwin Williams Wood Classics, which just so happens to be on sale right now.

Interesting, thanks. I thought it would be recommended to stay away from Minwax. I was expecting to hear Mohawk, Cabot, Duraseal, etc.
Actually, the finish applied over the stain is more important than the stain.

All stains fade with UV exposure---look at floors where an area rug has set and then been moved.
I like the way you think, John.
Yes, that certainly makes sense. I'll be using Bona sealer and satin topcoat.

Bona Traffic is *the* top coat of the gods. I found out about it at a local wood floor finishing shop. They had half their front entrance done with Traffic and the rest done with all other brands. The traffic side was pristine.
Stuff ain't cheap...
But the good stuff never is.
