Does anyone know why it is necessary to use an intermediary image hosting site in order to put pictures here (and on other similar forums)? What is wrong with a simple copy and paste process?

Can anyone recommend good, easy to use, dependable, safe, hosting sites?

Likely storage issues, so our host doesn't have to invest in machines to store pics.

I use Flickr and Photobucket.
