I recently completed this box for my grandson.  He had one that was built by his now deceased great-grandfather.  My son told me it was damaged and unrepairable and asked that I build him a replacement.  So I looked thru my wood stash for a board that was wide enough and had enough material to make it out of one piece of wood.

My own design based on what my son described of the damaged box.  The original was hinged, but with my design, I was not happy with a hinge so I made it a lift off top.
It’s made of padauk, no stain and several coats of gloss polyurethane.

Nice job.
Very nice! I love the look of Padauk. (I also love the smell of it.  [Image: smile.png] ) The proportions look very balanced.  Your grandson will treasure it forever.
Beautiful color. I love Padauk and we sell a lot of it, but I always feel like I have to warn people about the color changing as it ages.
Nice box. Now if it would just stay that nice reddish color.
Understated, classy, love it.
