What's in it? Also, how long is it usable before it expires after opening container? Thanks..Bill

It is shellac, DNA and BLO of which I make my own.  I have two bottles of Mylands of which I only used one time and shelved it.

If you want them let me know and I will give them to you at a great price.

The mix is 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 but I found out I do 6oz of Shellac, 6oz BLO and just 2oz of DNA and that works great for me now.

Is there no wax in the Mylands product?

I don't think theirs any way in the friction polish. Even in the Mylands finishing kit the wax is in bar form and the last step.

Might try Capt Eddie’s O.B.’s Shine Juice lot less expensive not sure have to worry about shelf life..

Like Angus said there is no wax in it.  The friction part is how fast it goes and sets the Shellac = gloss into the wood.  For me I flood the wood and start the lathe at 450 with the same towel.  Then I turn it up to 2000 and use a new dry cloth and then apply until it is hot.  I apply carnauba wax or PPP after that.

There is a product out there called Shellawax which, as the name indicates, is basically shellac and wax.  The wax serves as the lubricant in place of the oil in the homebrew versions, and perhaps the Mylands.

NB : The friction polishes based on cellulose lacquer have zinc stearate which would make some slick as well.

Those ingredients are butyl alcohol, ethanol (ethyl alcohol), and kerosene.  Mylands does have wax in it - most likely beeswax.  Most friction polishes do.  The listing of ethanol and butyl alcohol is a sure bet it has shellac in it.  If it were just shellac, it wouldn't build up well under friction.  It's also possible it has BLO in it.  The kerosene would help the BLO dry out under the heat of the friction during application.  Since beeswax doesn't buff to a high gloss, following up with a hard wax like carnauba would allow a higher gloss finish.
