This came in a bunch of wood given to me by the son of a deceased woodworker. No clue what it is. I'll likely rip it down and make boxes out of it. Roughly 19x32 and 4/4.

Any thoughts?
Single piece? First impression was cherry, but I have never seen a cherry tree that size.
My guess is Mahogany, probably a reject because of the knot. Not vet desirable when you are doing a nice millwork job. Highly desirable for a smaller project.
Is it heavy or light; it has the look of sawmill redwood.
My vote is Cherry. I had some cherry boards 14" wide at one time so possible.

RIP a thin strip off and smell the dust, cherry is unmistakable.
Joint one edge and open it up. The color on my monitor is telling me walnut in color, and grain.

But.....could be but wood
Spanish cedar possibly. Or else another member of the Mahogany family. Does it have some aroma when you cut or sand a bit?
Can you get a close-up pic of the grain and end grain?
It would help to know if it’s heavy or light. My impression is cherry ?.
looks to me like walnut on my monitor
