It works well. I made a couple in different sizes a few years ago.
I've used chisels as scrapers for years, works very well, and thet're easy to grip.

I used a lathe scraper chisel to bed an iron in a wooden plane. Works great at removing the high spots and leveling, and leaves a finished surface
"Finished surface?" You've all gone quite mad, how can it produce a finished surface, it doesn't have a cap iron.... :-)
