  Rubbing out a waterborne finish?
Posted by: johndi - 04-10-2016, 04:35 AM - Forum: Finishing - Replies (1)

I would sand the top with 320 or 400 grit until it's dead smooth and then apply one or two more coats of finish. Yeah, you'll have to buy another can, but that's a better solution than trying to rub out overlapping layers to look like one.

Converting a #6 to Bevel up?
Posted by: jteneyck - 04-09-2016, 08:09 PM - Forum: Woodworking Hand Tools - Replies (10)

I think the best way to shoot end grain is to knife the board all the way around, put it in the vise, and plane to the knife line.

Sump Pump Replacement Play by Play
Posted by: jteneyck - 04-09-2016, 04:42 PM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (1)

I would have thought there'd be a check valve between the backup pump and the wye so that when the primary stops pumping water doesn't drain back into the backup pump. Where are the check valves?

American Chestnut

The bark looks like White Oak though.....color looks like Chestnut, but it might just be the patina or it could be mixed.....

How is PSI customer service these days?
Posted by: Herb G - 04-09-2016, 03:25 PM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (5)

Don't know why they are still in business and their products are crap. I spoke to Craft supply about them carrying Penn State pens and told them I won't order from them again.

  Bandsaw blade breakin

I've never had to break in a wood cutting blade. Only thing I do is hone the back edge and corners.

  5 Cut Method
Posted by: RJT123 - 04-09-2016, 10:37 AM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (2)

I used this method last weekend for a small crosscut sled. Some test cuts were .0002" error ratio.

Making a new large sled soon and will use the same procedure.

Help to Choose a New TS Fence
Posted by: MarkSLSmith - 04-09-2016, 09:47 AM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (8)

I have a sawstop with the factory fence, and made my own version/copy of the vsc fence with 80/20 and a piece of UHMW as the surface.

If your going to use the tracks in the 80/20 to attach other stuff it may be worth it.

The way I work I don't really do much with my home made fence that I couldn't do with the saw stop fence.

It is easy to move the UHMW surface but moving the 80/20 requires flipping the fence upside down.
