  Plumbing Quetion
Posted by: ChuckL2 - 10-27-2020, 07:54 PM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (10)

Have a raised ranch with a half-bath on the lower level.  The toilet in the half-bath is lowest plumbing fixture in the house.  Above the half-bath there is a full-bath on the main level.  When the tub on the main floor is emptied, the toilet on the lower level gurgles loudly.  After the gurgling, the water level in the toilet is very low.  What would cause this?

LOML wants a new heater for her greenhouse. It states 240. Is that the same as 220?

Thanks

Table Saw and Planer. Both have been neglected (exposed to the elements) but should spring back to life with some steel wool and a little elbow grease

The saw is lightly used and in good shape.

I moved and now my "shop" is much smaller than before.  Gotta clear out a few machines so offering this saw for $125.

Would prefer local pickup (Swansboro, NC).

Posted by: Philip1231 - 10-26-2020, 04:13 PM - Forum: Tool Swap N' Sell - Replies (18)

I have a pristine Lie Nielsen 140 Skew Block Plane with Nicker, right hand configuration, and I'd like to trade for the same plane, in the left hand configuration.  Let me know if this trade appeals to you. Thanks

  More about planing end grain
Posted by: Ron Brese - 10-26-2020, 02:39 PM - Forum: Woodworking Hand Tools - Replies (23)

Tom posted about planing end grain. There are several schools of thought but I thought I'd post a link to a video that shows end grain can be handled with many planes. At about the 2:30 mark I plane end grain with a 55 degree pitched small smoother.  So there ya go.

AM Radio Loop Antenna in Walnut
Posted by: Sullivan - 10-26-2020, 09:43 AM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (8)

My latest project - an AM radio loop antenna.  I listen to AM talk radio and a few of the stations I like are not real clear with lots of static.  I was looking into purchasing an external antenna and came across these plans: http://www.mtmscientific.com/loop.html - I fancied up the feet a little.  Works surprisingly well and what is neat is that you do not actually connect it to the radio - just place it nearby and tune it for the best reception.

I made mine from walnut with a BLO and wax finish.

The air variable capacitor that they sell at the site above can also be found on Amazon and eBay but the price with shipping is about the same.

The knob is a Davies Molding 1600BW purchased on eBay.
