Flag case for Burial Flag - Firebee - 02-12-2017 I get to make one. Any hints? My plans are air dried walnut and finger joints for the miters. Think I'll do a triangle with a base. I have googled it of course and have ideas for the size. looking for help from someone who has made one. It is to honor my Dad. RE: Flag case for Burial Flag - Gary G™ - 02-12-2017 There are many plans online; Woodworkers Journal has made a good plan and article available: http://www.woodworkersjournal.com/making-memorial-flag-case/ Many of us have made one or more Honor Flag cases. We're here to help if you need it. RE: Flag case for Burial Flag - Sawdustd - 02-13-2017 Step one in the process is measure the size, length and height, of the folded flag and step two is to build a mock up from cardboard then test fit as the article suggest. http://www.woodworkersjournal.com/making...flag-case/ Choice of wood and joinery is yours. As said, we are standing by to help. RE: Flag case for Burial Flag - fredhargis - 02-13-2017 Wood Magazine also has a nice plan, their's eliminate the extreme angles on the base. Best on the case, and sorry for your loss....many thanks to your Dad for his service! RE: Flag case for Burial Flag - Lynden - 02-13-2017 I've changed my mind over the years and now prefer a rectangular case. I like some of the red and white of the flag to show. https://www.finehomedisplays.com/proddetail.asp?prod=SF6007 https://www.finehomedisplays.com/proddetail.asp?prod=SF6107 RE: Flag case for Burial Flag - Firebee - 02-13-2017 Thanks guys. You helped a bunch. I think I have a good idea now. Gonna make 2 or 3 while I'm doing it. Donate what i don't use. RE: Flag case for Burial Flag - Adnick - 02-13-2017 Sorry for you loss, good luck with the case Andy RE: Flag case for Burial Flag - mranum - 02-16-2017 This is what I made for my Dad's flag. I copied a design by a member here but I for the life of me can't remember his name. There is a clear glass over the display area in the bottom that I had engraved. In the bottom pic I put a dark cloth behind it to show it better. The Oak I used happened to be some of the last lumber he helped me knock down and mill up, and it was his favorite. Seemed fitting. RE: Flag case for Burial Flag - fredhargis - 02-16-2017 That looks like the Ed Salle design (Waxing Moon, I think) and he released that to the public domain. He had the plans in Sketchup, and i saved a copy at the time. I'd have to find it, but I may still have that buried in my files somewhere. RE: Flag case for Burial Flag - mranum - 02-16-2017 Yes! Thank you! I knew his site was named _____Moon but I couldnt find it. I had talked with him about it before I made it, and shared it with him when I was through. |
