That lighter trick is a day too late. I already just cut it off yesterday and installed a new fitting. I didn't want to do that because another mistake meant not having enough pipe leading out from the wall to try again. At that point I would be digging it up outside and redoing the lead into the house. Thankfully it went well and no leaks.
But I'll keep that lighter trick in mind for next time.
