RE: Braces that were dads - wood-chips - 02-26-2018 It's been a while but I finally got around to rehabbing the Stanley. After getting some of the rust/stuff off, I discovered it was chrome plated at birth, now just a few remnants remaining. I wire brushed it by hand. It had a few rough places that had to be sanded. After it was cleaned up I found the marking No 945 10in. I decided to leave most of the patina/rust stains as taking it back to shiny all over would be difficult and not look like it was old and once dad's. After it was all wire brushed I hosed it down with Knock'er Loose Penetrating Solvent and let it set overnight. Next day I wiped it down and gave the wood a polish with black shoe paste wax. It now works just as well as the last time dad used it I'm giving the other no-name to my son to rehab and have another tool from his grandad. Here's the after rehab. |
