I have a full shop with all the other woodworking tools and really enjoy the flat stuff, Krenov cabinets, jewelry boxes, small furniture.
It is nice to just turn a bowl or 2 between projects.
And I have good sources for turning wood

Had a 1/2 on Ol' Blue - Delta 12" - for a few years, until I upgraded the bandsaw to a full HP.  Moved the 3/4 over, but no real difference noted in use, because I had learned how to turn by then.  Tool presentation is more important than HP.

Measure your current sheaves/pulley ratio to get a good value for low end rpm, and then, if you can, get a motor pulley that will slow you down.  Those lathes were made for spindles, and tend to have low ends =>600 rpm.  You'd like <500 if you can get it for starting bowls.
