The thing that makes me want to plane the newly cut surface is the idea that it absorbs water differently so drives it to cup. But I think the boards that I have resawn that cupped had case hardening from aggressive kiln drying or had bad grain. I see a little bowing in another one of the boards, but nothing has cupped so far.
I have a really nice birdseye maple board that cupped badly when resawn. Still haven't figured out what to do with it more than 20 years on. Probably should rip it, it's too thin to do much otherwise.
