RE: Frame & Panel Mini Chest, - bandit571 - 08-06-2018 Taken out of the clamps ( and didn't fall apart ) then claened the corners up.. [attachment=12022] Worked all the way around. Sanders and the #3c plane....even a bit of hand sanding... Gave the entire outside a seal coat of Amber Shellac.. [attachment=12023] Long sides and.. [attachment=12024] and the ends...was just going to do the back, but... [attachment=12025] Might as well do all four sides. Laid out parts to make a lid for this thing.. [attachment=12026] May try some more this evening, after the shellac is done....will see IF I feel like tomorrow, when I get back home. Stay tuned.. RE: Frame & Panel Mini Chest, - bandit571 - 08-07-2018 Lid was made last night....and still sitting in the clamps... [attachment=12034] Too doped up right now, to do any work in the shop.....T.E.E. scan, and a CT scan with contrast..... [attachment=12035] Will have to let this sit a while....until I am allowed back in the shop...nap time is needed, right now.. RE: Frame & Panel Mini Chest, - bandit571 - 08-10-2018 Before I left the house the other day, knowing the shop would be off-limits for a while, I brought the box, lid, hinges and other items upstairs. I figured I could at least sit and work on the hinges..... [attachment=12111] Tiny hinges....wait until you see the screws Lid had been sanded, and a bit of shaping done, before it came up the steps... [attachment=12112] Still needs the hinges installed, and a coat of Amber Shellac. Set the lid on the box, about where it will be going.. [attachment=12113] Not sure IF the lid would need a handle....same with the box.....box MAY get handles on the ends...unless that would make it look too "busy" Will update on the project, and me.....as things go along.....still a bit sore, today. Stay tuned RE: Frame & Panel Mini Chest, - Arlin Eastman - 08-10-2018 I like it and can not wait to see it done. RE: Frame & Panel Mini Chest, - bandit571 - 08-10-2018 Getting, slowly....hinges are installed, now.. [attachment=12125] Used a few lightweight, cordless tools.. [attachment=12126] Handles are installed, and the rest of the Amber Shellac applied.. [attachment=12127] Lid has a handle, too [attachment=12128] Need to buff out the shellac, before the varnish goes on.. [attachment=12129] We'll see how this goes...may get a short chain for the lid, maybe? Stay tuned RE: Frame & Panel Mini Chest, - bandit571 - 08-11-2018 Well, dug around and found the "Free" brush.....bought a huge plastic tub of tools and other goodies ( $5) and this brush was in the tub... [attachment=12149] Might as well use it. Figured I needed a way to hold the lid open, and not get varnish on my fingers... [attachment=12150] Cut a length of chain, found a pair of the smallest "cup hooks" I could dig up....Yankee #41 to drill a few pilot holes... [attachment=12151] Had to cut the chain again, for final length ( 2 links.. ) then crimped the hooks closed... [attachment=12152] So, now the lid will stay opened, without me holding it After the finish is done, and my son clears the top of this thing off.. [attachment=12153] This box will be sitting on top, then he can fill it up as he wants. At least the grain matches Will see how the varnish does, tomorrow.....stay tuned.. RE: Frame & Panel Mini Chest, - TraditionalToolworks - 08-12-2018 Great work bandit! The type of furniture to be proud of! RE: Frame & Panel Mini Chest, - bandit571 - 08-12-2018 Calling this Project done... [attachment=12172] Shame this is the back of the box [attachment=12173] Ends don't look to bad, do they [attachment=12174] Front is a bit on the showy side, though.. Varnish has been rubbed down smooth, but not glossy [attachment=12175] Insides were also given a coat of varnish.... [attachment=12176] I guess I can close the book ( lid? ) on this project. Thanks for looking in. RE: Frame & Panel Mini Chest, - Bill Holt - 08-13-2018 I like the book-matched front. RE: Frame & Panel Mini Chest, - Arlin Eastman - 08-13-2018 Nice work. So what is the next project? |
