Looks great, it will be interesting to hear how the finishing goes. Finishing is where I tend to struggle.

I'm using General Finishes Salad Bowl finish.  Although it's not intended for projects like this I have some left over from a previous project, it's easy to apply (4-5 coats) and I like how Oak looks with this finish.  I'm applying it with a cotton cloth.

To each his own. Do you know of any other way to get a single clean edge, i.e. single line on that corner? If having a single line is not important to the OP, any number of ways to attach the stiles at the corner will work. Just depends on how professional you want the final job to look.
