I wouldn't worry too much about it on a wood lathe but most machinists do not want to do much grinding on a metal lathe. It isn't so much the "metal dust" as it is the dust from the vitrified grinding wheel..That dust is very abrasive...metal dust is also but not as much..With CBN wheels, there is no aluminum oxide dust being "worn away"..The CBN is fused TO the wheel. The wheel is not comprised of it like vitrified wheels. if CBN "wore away" as fast, nobody would buy them....
