Right.. The support is the maple rail connected to the walnut feet with screws. The whole support piece is independent of the bed frame.

Thanks rudedan. RIP Charles. That's a super solution. I ended up using the center rail connector atgcpaul linked to above. It worked out well and, so far, has passed the squeak test. Here's a couple pics:
