It looks like your center support sits in cradles on the floor with no attachment to the bed frame at all? Is that right?

Right.. The support is the maple rail connected to the walnut feet with screws. The whole support piece is independent of the bed frame.

Thanks rudedan. RIP Charles. That's a super solution. I ended up using the center rail connector atgcpaul linked to above. It worked out well and, so far, has passed the squeak test. Here's a couple pics:
