Looks like it would be reasonably airtight, especially with taped joints, and smooth enough to offset turbulence common with flex pipe. That's why I use the metal pipe for longer runs.

That's a horrible idea.

You've already mentioned the resistance, but it ain't cheaper than 4" elbows.  So what'd be the point ?

Urban legend.  Ground it if you want, but there's no risk of a spark causing an explosion in an ungrounded wood dust collector.
