Also critical is not to use oil that can cause self combustion. I use 3 in one oil as suggested by Paul Sellers, which helps prevent rust, too. I like to use the wide mouth cans as I can draw a small tool (a chisel or dovetail saw) across the cloth without toppling them. Oiling the tools is part of my sharpening regime.

I apply mineral oil with a small 6"x 6" pad of sheepskin, using just enough to slightly moisten the pad... Keep it in a sealed plastic zipper bag...It's important to note that it is available {in my location} in at least two viscosities...I use the "heavy"...I have also used "full synthetic" engine oil which provides even more lubricity and moisture proofing, but doesn't smell as good as baby oil.

Appreciate the humor and the tip.
Whe. You dip the chisels do you just wipe it he back over quickly or do you plunge the chisel into it (like some Japanese woodworkers do)?
