Would you be able to shim the shank of the drillpress so it drills a bit out?

Drill it at 3/4, drill press with sanding drum to oversized it. Done, KISS.

Well I do not know if you plan on using a drill press but here is a place I get my MT bits from and they go Metric and Standard up to 3" down to 3/64 or .5mil to 40mil

with a user name of engineer, KISS probably isnt complicated enough. this is going to require rocket science.
