OK, I'm a believer: the tapered sliding DT is the way to go. I don't have a DT plane, but I used the side rabbet  plane with a 9.5°
wedge under the skate, to give me a 1:6 DT angle.  Worked great. Some Pics below. Sincere thanks to all those that shared their wisdom; it is GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!
