Fella, you make it look so easy!

RE: In need of a replacement - bandit571 - 10-31-2022

Grooves are needed to house the plywood panels for the drawer bottoms...fastest way I know?
[attachment=44991]
Stanley No. 45 with a 1/4" wide cutter ( that I also just sharpened back up)
[attachment=44992]
Fence is set so that the groove is 1/4" above the bottom edge of the sides/front..
[attachment=44993]
Sharp cutter vs a knot....sliced right on through..
[attachment=44994]
The pine sides...made a lot of long curls...the Ash fronts?   A LOT of chips..
[attachment=44996]

There was one drawer side mis-marked..and that is how it got a groove along the top edge and the bottom edge..as I was NOT about to make a replacement..

I had thought about setting up the "other" Stanley #45..
[attachment=44997]
But...trying to jig up a way to mill dados with it....and since I will need to use the tablesaw for other items...decided to just mill the dados on the saw...and clean them up with a chisel...
[attachment=44998]
The other operations?   Was to cut 4 drawer backs to length ( avoiding the bigger knots) and then rip to height ( removing those bigger knots), then have it set up to cut a drawer bottom panel to size..
[attachment=44999]
Enough for 3 drawers?   Where is the stuff for the 4th drawer?
[attachment=45000]
Sitting in the clamps, of course...
[attachment=45001]
Checked for square, before the screws were installed.

Stay tuned...stil have 3 more drawers to build....

No. 2....
[attachment=45005]
No. 3..
[attachment=45006]
and No. 4
[attachment=45007]

Looks like I will be spending today, cleaning these 4 up..so they will slide into the case easily...and see about some knobs getting installed...so I can pull the drawers back out...maybe think about a finish for this Project....

Stay tuned..
Winkgrin

RE: In need of a replacement - bandit571 - 11-03-2022

Drawers have been cleaned up, and handled...and fitted to the case..
[attachment=45021]
A plug was cut....
[attachment=45022]
Installed, trimmed flush with a block plane.

A "blend" of  Amber Shellac and Witch's Brew stain has been brushed on...
[attachment=45023]
Awaiting a coat of Clear Gloss Poly this afternoon...
[attachment=45024]
Might move this upstairs tomorrow....as the Boss wants to see it...
[attachment=45025]
Not too bad of a little Project?

I like it.  Nice work.

RE: In need of a replacement - MarkSingleton - 11-03-2022

As always Bandit, you keep designing and building at a rapid pace. All the while photographing
the project and procedures and then posting here. You put the majority of us here to shame. At
least as far as actual woodworking content for this site. It IS noticed and appreciated.

I am certain there are plenty of woodworkers here who are just as busy. But you take it
to the next level. It is no small thing to take the time to document the process and then post it for
all of us to see.

So, short version, Thank You!!

RE: In need of a replacement - Bill Holt - 11-04-2022

Mark said it very well.

Thank you for taking us along.

RE: In need of a replacement - camp10 - 11-05-2022

I agree. THanks for the build along.

Why did you combine the amber shellac with the stain? It looks very nice, BTW.

RE: In need of a replacement - bandit571 - 11-05-2022

Blend was because I did not have enough of either....

RE: In need of a replacement - Grandpa Dave - 11-05-2022

Happy to know Chester now has a place for his drawers. ;=)
