RE: Next Project - Bucko - 07-09-2017 Nice posting, my shop skills and such doesn't allow furniture woodworking but I enjoyed your progress. RE: Next Project - bandit571 - 07-10-2017 Went back to the shop last night....started working on that lid [attachment=3092] Made a full sized template, for the joint where the lid and top shelf meet... [attachment=3093] needed to go from this "thing" to .. [attachment=3094] this. Templates set the degree of bevel I needed to rip. Set up a guide for the saw to follow [attachment=3095] Hey, that saw is as old as I am..Vintage saw, right? Will come back later, and clean the saw marks up with a plane. [attachment=3096] Looks like I have quite a few to hit with the planes....includes a "book rest" lip for books to rest against. Shop is usually closed on Mondays, maybe get back to work on Tuesday? RE: Next Project - bandit571 - 07-11-2017 Snuck into the shop last night..I got bored.... All the edges that needed planed, were done... [attachment=3111] Beveled and non-beveled edges got jointered.. [attachment=3112] Flat work done as well. Got the Book Rest sized, and planed smooth [attachment=3113] Had to double check that I glued it to the correct face of the lid. Used a small-ish plane for most of the work.. [attachment=3114] Though there were a few spots that needed the wee ones.. [attachment=3115] The end grain on the top shelf needed that little block plane. Need to meander down to the shop, and remove some clamps, and start cleaning up glue joints, including all the dovetailed corners..might be some cussing involved.. Stay tuned, I might get to the finish yet, inspite of meself.. RE: Next Project - hbmcc - 07-11-2017 Hey, don't make fun of the C-saw *I* bought new..... And, carbide tip blades are close to a dime a dozen. I get one every time I waste a trip to Hme Despot. Then make weird-strange tools from the old dull ones... RE: Next Project - bandit571 - 07-11-2017 Clamps came off, edge was planed.. [attachment=3116] Dovetails cleaned up and leveled, small.. [attachment=3117] and the large ends.. [attachment=3118] Gap in the bottom ofthe case was fillered in.. [attachment=3119] Got those high spot along the edges of the stand leveled out. Decided to set things up, to see how it all will look.. [attachment=3120] Waiting on Friday to buy some hinges, and a finish to apply....Starting to look like a desk, now... Stay tuned... RE: Next Project - bandit571 - 07-12-2017 Hinges were bought, and installed..(I hate hinge work ) [attachment=3133] Walnut plug made, and glued in place, waiting on the glue to dry, before I trim them flush [attachment=3134] Hinges seem to work nicely. [attachment=3135] Closed the lid, and did a test run of BLO on just the lid ( BLO STINKS ) [attachment=3136] Placed the desk back out of the way, for now.. [attachment=3137] And clear the bench of tools. Will need to find a spot I can do the finishing in.....a little cramped down there. IF the rain would hold off a day or two, I can do the BLO outside on the back patio... Stay tuned, almost done. RE: Next Project - bandit571 - 07-13-2017 Tried a different camera, as things were coming out too yellow.. [attachment=3142] Hmm, may need to turn the flash ON? [attachment=3143] Ah, that's better... One more? [attachment=3144] Might use this older camera to post the finished project RE: Next Project - Stwood_ - 07-13-2017 Yellow pee colored pics look better from this end. RE: Next Project - Rob Young - 07-13-2017 Are you planning to rest your wrists against that tall "pencil stop" when using the desk? I really like standing desks and one has been on my list for a while now. Getting some ideas, especially the H stretcher configuration. RE: Next Project - bandit571 - 07-13-2017 The "Pencil stop" is more to stop a large book from sliding off the lid. Desk has been hauled up the stairs....just in time.. [attachment=3156] This is where it WAS sitting [attachment=3157] Washer's drain pipe wasn't letting all the water run past it...had to yank the pipe out, and listen to the whirlpool sound as almost 2" of water went down the drain. Huge Thunderstorm was going by, there is now a pond between my house and the neighbor's place....wasn't there a while ago...running through the shop, now.. [attachment=3158] Maybe tomorrow I can work in the shop? |
