Some years ago, I built a sled from plans published in "The American Woodworker." It featured a replaceable saw kerf section that I thought would be handy. Here's a photo of it:

It was large, heavy and unwieldy. I never replaced the saw kerf insert, so that turned out to be useless for me. I sold the sled with my Unisaw. I needed a sled for my new tablesaw, so I designed my own from my recollection of the earlier build. This one features a telscoping fence section that provides an end stop for wide repetitive cuts. It is just as heavy and unwieldy as my first one, but it it useful for wide panels. I built a smaller one using the basic idea but considerably simplified. It is much handier for everyday use than either of its two predecessors. The end-stop capacity is limited to about 15", so its usefulness for repetitive cuts is limited to smaller pieces. The widest panel or board it can handle is 16 1/2". The great majority of my day-to-day crosscutting is smaller than that, so it is my go-to crosscut sled. The top rail and the flip stops are Kreg.
