You remind me of the Old tool users back 1950's and earlier who mostly only had hand tools and doing what they had to, to get the furniture they needed.
Now all you have to do is cut a tree down and mill it all up by hand and them make the furniture.
Please make sure you take pictures of that to.

The Ash came from a friend's woods....he has another friend with a bandsaw mill...they go "Halfs" when a tree gets dropped. That is where I go for most of the hardwood I use.
Project came from a 12' 1 x 6 skipped planed Ash board....and 10' of a 2 x 4 of Ash....both from the same tree. Other than the plywood for the shelf, and a couple Walnut plugs, everything was made from just those two pieces of Ash.

Going to rebuild the end vise on the bench...first.....3+ years of staedy, hard work....has taken it's toll....Will stop by Menard's cut-off bin...try for a few short pieces of 2 x 8...or just rip a 2 x 12 down...

I've got a pickup bed, level full of pine construction scrap. If you were closer you could have what you need.

Not much got done today...

Flattened the face of one jaw...

Removed the old jaw from the moving half of the vise

Clamped the new jaw into place, pilot holes drilled, threads waxed up...#12 flat head slotted screws re-installed...I left the new jaw a tad high..

I figure when the rest of the vise is rebuilt..I can plane both jaws to match each other...I did lay out for dog holes

Have the right size bit...will hold off until vise is rebuilt..in case things move a bit...Hmmm..12. or ..14" brace?

Bit IS a Craftsman....about 3/4" size...
