RE: A project for June? - bandit571 - 06-20-2020

Ok, the kicker also gets a hole drilled....centered and just a single hole..
[attachment=27787]
Winds up centered in the top.  Adjusted the latch on the door.  Then the fun could begin...cleared off the Tablesaw...flopped the top on top of the saw, "good" side down...needed help to get the case up, and onto the top......and then centered it up...get ONE corner correct, add a screw through a slot...
[attachment=27788]
And worked my way around, then add the center screw.  Top is now attached.    Thought I could apply a coat of Witch's Brew,  while I could get to the underside of things...
[attachment=27789]
I could spin this around, until I got to every spot.....then needed more help....2 people to lift the case enough that I could slide the saw back out of the way.....then have them sit the case down..on it's own 4 feet....then I could stain the re of the spots...

Not sure I like how the drawer front came out....may try a second coat, later...
PIP?

Was a LONG, and busy day....bench filled up, too...

Just one of those days.....
Raised

Waiting on the brew to fully dry before a coat or 2 of clear gloss varnish is applied....when that is done....2 people are needed to haul this upstairs to the kitchen...there I'll add the casters....and replace the old island with this new one.
Stay tuned..

Wasn't happy the way the top turned out....sanded it down a bit with 150 grit....
Wanted a second coat of stain on the drawer's front, too....so...
[attachment=27794]
Getting a little bit better...will see how this dries....and maybe a coat of varnish, tomorrow?

Stay tuned, almost done...

Is it me eyes or did you sand the top and not the rest the same grit of paper???

RE: A project for June? - bandit571 - 06-22-2020

1). Top is still wet....
2). might be the way the lights are hitting things....
[attachment=27807]
I used a heavy coat on the top, trying to even out a few spots.....and just left it to dry.....Boss wants a very shiny top, BTW....

Today being a Monday, shop will be closed.    May spend the time putting all the tools away.....have a plane that needs it's iron worked on..

Sargent #3416 Jack plane....
[attachment=27809]
So this just might be the "Next Project" I'll work on....

Stay tuned....

RE: A project for June? - Arlin Eastman - 06-22-2020

ahh OK.

What grit do you normal use to finish with??

If the plane rehab is next I am very much looking forward to it.

RE: A project for June? - bandit571 - 06-22-2020

Grit I finish with......0000 Steel Wool...

RE: A project for June? - bandit571 - 06-23-2020

First coat of the clear gloss varnish is on...letting it dry for today...

RE: A project for June? - bandit571 - 06-24-2020

Sanded first coat with 220 grit, and wiped it down....added coat#2 this morning...

Quite a sight from the last step from the shop's stairs..
Cool
[attachment=27862]
I left the drawer open a bit, to prevent it from getting stuck from the varnish...
[attachment=27863]
Still a bit tacky to the touch.   Dad used to take an old T-shirt and rub the "H" out of it....idea being to "heat" it up a bit, and polish it up....

Will let this sit a while...and see how it dries..
Stay tuned...

RE: A project for June? - bandit571 - 06-24-2020

Not much fun, getting this thing upstairs....dolly made it too tall....had to rotate the thing end for end going up the stairs....then add the casters to each leg..

So it can be rolled to wherever the Boss wants it....once she got the old island cleaned out. I then had to haul that out front to the curb

At least her pop bottles fit...

Stock pot did too.....cookie sheets and such have been stashed in the door cabinet...all fit.
[attachment=27883]
The Boss did want a very shiny top....I think it is time to pop that top....might have just earned one, today..

Good job.  When the Boss is happy, everyone is happy.
