Big Ole Arn! - Grey Mountain - 05-23-2017 It is obvious that you are gonna curl your hair or fry yourself with all this 'lectricity stuff. So in the interest of safety and your well-being, I'll come take it off your hands and thereby prevent a potentially disastrous accident. Just tryin' to help. It's what us Comanches do, ya know. GM RE: So, he told me to come get the darn thing out of his garage... Big Ole Arn! - FrankAtl - 05-23-2017 Greg, I sent you a PM about VFD programming assistance. Frank RE: So, he told me to come get the darn thing out of his garage... Big Ole Arn! - FrankAtl - 05-23-2017 That FM50 TECO drive you mentioned is Nema 4X which means washdown and corrosion resistant. You don't need that rating unless you are going to use the lathe outside during an acid rainstorm. If TECO is the route you want to go then this one is the one you want: http://www.factorymation.com/FM50-202-C Another option would be like this one: https://www.automationdirect.com/adc/Shopping/Catalog/Drives/GS2_(115_-z-_230_-z-_460_-z-_575_VAC_V-z-Hz_Control)/GS2_Drive_Units_(115_-z-_230_-z-_460_-z-_575_VAC)/GS2-22P0 A sensorless vector drive will give you better torque control at lower speeds but probably isn't required for a lathe application. If you think you want the sensorless vector drive anyway I would recommend this one: https://www.automationdirect.com/adc/Shopping/Catalog/Drives/DURApulse_-_GS3_(230_-z-_460_VAC_Sensorless_Vector_Control)/DURApulse_-_GS3_Drive_Units_(230_-z-_460_VAC_SLV)/GS3-22P0 OR THIS ONE: http://www.factorymation.com/CV-2002-H3 Frank RE: So, he told me to come get the darn thing out of his garage... Big Ole Arn! - Gregory of Sherwood Forest - 05-23-2017 Grey Mountain, Thanks for the offer. Once again, you are proving your selflessness and willingness to take on great personal danger to assist your brethren! I'll tell you what, I'll name you as GodFather to this lathe, and you can feel free to come visit it any time. RE: So, he told me to come get the darn thing out of his garage... Big Ole Arn! - Gregory of Sherwood Forest - 05-23-2017 Frank, thanks for the info and the offer. I will most probably be taking you up on the offer. I'm pretty sure I want to go the route of sensorless. Of the two you linked to, one is only 2HP and the other is 3ph input. I want 3 HP max and need single phase input. Also, having the braking and potentiometer built in really sounds good to me. I don't want to go thru all this, and then wish I had spent a few more more bucks for a capability that I want. Even if I spend $100 more than I needed to, at least I won't be wishing I had those extra features. Programming whichever model I buy will be a challenge. From everything I've read about these, it seems the instruction manuals are the weak point.... RE: So, he told me to come get the darn thing out of his garage... Big Ole Arn! - Gregory of Sherwood Forest - 05-23-2017 Thanks again Tom, but do either of those support braking? I don't see it in the specs. The CV-2003 seems to have everything else, though. If your spindle does not have a good place to tighten down the chuck grub screw, you probably do not want more braking than you can provide with your hand on the handwheel. That's awfully white of you. As Godfather, that means I get first dibs when you kick off, right. Uh, how you feeling? GM RE: So, he told me to come get the darn thing out of his garage... Big Ole Arn! - FrankAtl - 05-24-2017 Oops you're right. The links that TDKPE provided are the correct ones. You may have stated somewhere above but what advantage do you think (electronic) braking will give you? Electronic braking is very advantageous in some applications but I'm curious why you want it in this application. Anyway, the GS3 from Automationdirect has built-in braking. Features • Internal dynamic braking circuit for models under 20 hp; optional baking units available for models 20 hp and above • DC braking |
