Lumber in W.MA - CloseShave - 10-20-2014 Hi, I bought a house close to Pittsfield, MA and I've been trying to find a hardwood dealer relatively close by. Woodfinder isn't much help, most of what it lists is pretty far away, like at least 1.5HRS drive time. I'm hoping to find a small lumber dealer, one that might not be listed on Woodfinder. Can anyone recommend a place I could check out? Thanks, Steve Re: Lumber in W.MA - kscott - 10-20-2014 There is one in Greenfield, Forest Products Associates, and there are several more there. I have found a guy on Craig's list in your neck of the woods whose prices seemed OK. HTH Ken Re: Lumber in W.MA - CloseShave - 10-21-2014 Ken, Thanks for the Forest Products pointer, I'll check them out. I never thought to look at CL postings, good idea!! I know there must be some good small places out in W.MA, I'd rather support local sawyer's than a giant company. Steve Re: Lumber in W.MA - measure once cut remeasure - 10-21-2014 Eagle lumber in Stamford VT is just across the border from Clarksburg MA 802-694-1411. I picked up some figured oak from them quite a long time ago. If You are willing to drive almost an hour there are a couple in NY that are only about 15 minutes from each other. I visited the Shaker Museum there a couple times, and really enjoyed it. The area seem really nice and the scenery was beautiful. Re: Lumber in W.MA - DaveParkis - 10-21-2014 I'm over in Albany and I use Valente. Their prices are reasonable and they will let you sort/search for boards you like. As Karl said, you should consider coming over here next September for the NWA auction. Prices are real good. We sell a lot of oak, cherry and maple. Sometimes we have butternut, walnut and some exotics, but the exotics are pretty small quantities. Re: Lumber in W.MA - Mking143 - 10-21-2014 Have you been to Berkshire Products in Sheffield? Always an interesting place to while away a few hours. Re: Lumber in W.MA - CloseShave - 10-22-2014 Hi Karl, Thank you this is terrific information. I'll definitely attend the NWA action next year. Regards, Steve Re: Lumber in W.MA - CloseShave - 10-22-2014 Dave, Thanks, I'll definitely attend the next NWA auction. It sounds like fun and I'll check out Valente too. I need to learn the area so I'm more than happy to visit these places. Thanks again, Steve Re: Lumber in W.MA - CloseShave - 10-22-2014 No, I haven't been there, but it was one of the places that came up on the WoodFinder search. I checked their web site, its quite impressive. I really like these kinds of places. Do they sell only veneers and slabs or do they also have dimensioned rough lumber? Steve |
