Basswood hollowform - hairy - 05-26-2015 If someone gave painting lessons, I'' go. That was tough for me. I planned to hollow this out through a 1" hole, then I realized it would be useless. All I really had to change is the size of the tenon holding the top on,and the size of the hole in the body and now it's a box instead of a bottle. 12" tall x 4" round basswood, acrylics and rattle can poly. " /> " /> He's creepy, everywhere I go in my shop I have an eye following me. around. Re: Basswood hollowform - Woodshop - 05-26-2015 out of the park hairy Re: Basswood hollowform - Steve K - 05-26-2015 That's more than a little awesome!! Well done! Mel Re: Basswood hollowform - Arlin Eastman - 05-26-2015 Hairy You will have to send me everything on how to make it. My grandson love to watch them on his DVD. I hope I can make one for Christmas. Arlin Re: Basswood hollowform - TomFromStLouis - 05-26-2015 Help us out a little: is this a spongebob character? Looks to me like you did a great job on it. Re: Basswood hollowform - hairy - 05-26-2015 Arlin Eastman said: This piece is hollowed out. " /> I drew the overalls onto the body, and burned the lines in good with a woodburner. That makes it easier to make the overalls in relief. " /> I drew an arm onto a blank, cut it out on a B/S, taped it back together then cut it into 2 pieces. " /> What was a tenon to hold it in the chuck, is going to become legs and feet. Handsaw down the middle to make 2 legs, carve away. " /> Make a hard hat, the top for the box. Turn it to a snug fit in the body. " /> " /> " /> Cut it to shape on a B/S. " /> " /> " /> Glue on the arms, the goggle is separate pieces, cut and sanded to shape, glued on individually. The strap is veneer. It has an eye piece. http://www.woodcraft.com/Product/127732/50mm-Photo-Frame-Insert.aspx I turned a base from 2" maple, drilled holes through the base and into the legs, 2 and 3/4 " wood screws to hold it together. Paint the eye before gluing on the eyepiece, it just looks better with a lens than without. Paint it, spray poly, and bolt it together. It'll be a birthday present. I could not have done it without this carving vise, from Trent Bosch. It holds the work right where I want it for drawing, carving, and burning. This is a great tool. " /> Just ask if you need to.
