Do I need special router bit to work with plexiglass or lexan?

Carbide, either solid or brazed-on.
Spirals ok.
Do it everyday.

I made my living in plastics years back. Onsrud makes VERY GOOD bits specifically for plastics. Their "O" flute straight bit is the best plastic bit on the market IMHO.

All that being said, if you are cutting one or two parts, any sharp clean bit will work well, if you will be doing a lot, but specialty bits.

Pat,
Some day I'm going to get to west coast again, drop by your shop, and get some lessons. Always nice to see your work.
