Thinnest TS Blade - Shovel Man - 09-28-2015

I want to rip some expensive wood into thin strips and want to minimize waste. A thin blade that makes a smooth cut would be best. It could be smaller diameter since it will only need to cut thin material. There should be a lot of selection at reasonable cost at 7 1/4". What do you recommend?

A bandsaw blade will cut with a smaller kerf than any table saw blade. But, a band-saw blade will leave a less smooth surface. By the time you smooth the surface, you may end up with more sawdust.

Trying to rip thin wood can be dangerous.

I've used the 7-1/4" Diablo TK ripping blade in my TS with no issues. It takes a very narrow kerf and leaves a smooth edge. I bought it at HD for around $10 which makes it a genuine bargain. They also make a finishing blade, which might work even better if you are cutting thin stock. In any case, use a ZCI with it and you should have no trouble ripping your thin strips.

I ripped some 3/4" stock yesterday with a Freud 7 1/4" blade and it worked fine.

i often use doubled & spaced 7-1/4" blades on my tablesaw to cut perfect thickness tenons for large production runs. never had a problem.

This is the thinnest I've seen in a 10" blade. Scroll down a little to see the 10".

Total Solutions and Infinity both make an excellent 10" ultra thin kerf 40T general purpose blade that cut extremely well. The kerf is about 1/16".
