A mini-hammer for a mini purpose - Rich's Woodcraft - 11-20-2015

I like to make miniatures of some of my projects, usually ahead of time to work out scale and proportion. In this case I decided to make a one-third scale version of my popular plane hammer. I have a few mini tools and thought this would be a nice addition to the set.

The hammer is 4 inches long, the head is brass, turned from a piece of 1/4" brass rod. The handle and wooden face are bubinga and the wedge in the handle is maple.

Here it is adjusting my Veritas mini shoulder plane.

This was turned on my Delta midi lathe and as most of you know, took longer than the full scale version to make.

Enjoy!

Well done Rich, nice job. Gonna be down your way Thursday, have to make a stop at Hfx Specialty Hardwood, among other stops.

Hi Rich
It looks very nice. How did you attach the bubinga face to the brass? And hey, we need a bigger picture - we can't see all the fine detail!

I don't have a real tight shot, here's a higher res version of it on the tool box I made for it.
On the full size hammer, the wooden face is attached by a threaded tenon. On the mini, I just turned a 3/32" tenon and drilled the wooden face to CA it on.

Forgot to mention, since you are using the Delta I could bring my trailer and take that Oneway off your hands.

Rich
I know it would take many large friends. It is my dream lathe. I have a General International with EVS that I really like.
