"How many tools do you need"... she asked! - Ted Jay - 12-17-2015

When the wife asked just how many tools I needed, I show her this video and mention to her that she could be the one swinging the mallet....

Yeah, but wait until "Shape" magazine runs an article on how you can build up your shapely womanly parts by swinging a mallet, and then she'll tell you to get down to that toolkit.

I ask my wife, how many pair of shoes do you need? she quiets down after that.

I want to know more about that tool he uses to carve the grooves and other details. The double ended one with the short handle. He sure was good with that tool.

Excellent video. Thanks for posting.

It looked to me that the opposite ends of that tool were mirror images, sort right hand/left hand thing. He'd start his groove and then flip it over and rework the same groove. I think he was widening the dado, possibly truing the run of the slot. Pretty obvious he knew which end of the thing to hold.

I've thought a few times about making a twybil and or several other similar tools. What always gets me in these is the quality of the timber they have. Having seen some of the beech and other forests over there it almost makes you weep at what one can find available here. His shaving horse had some features one doesn't see often. I guess few woodworkers over here have much call to put 8" wide boards in a shave horse.
