trying to finish walnut and keep it light. - tomsteve - 12-19-2015 this is being asked for a fellow scroller. he did this cutting " /> absolutely beautiful work! now he wants to put a finish on it but doesnt want the wood to darken. is there a product or process that will do that? Re: trying to finish walnut and keep it light. - JR1 - 12-19-2015 Crystalac or any of the GF except for EnduroVar are waterborne finishes and do not change the color at all. EnduroVar is designed to mimic the yellowing of a traditional finish. If he wants to look at it he could try a 1# cut coat of Garnet shellac on scrap and see if he likes it. Otherwise the quality waterborne are just fine. They are easy to apply with a rag, foam brush and spray very easily. Re: trying to finish walnut and keep it light. - jteneyck - 12-19-2015 No matter what he puts on it it will look a lot darker than it does now. Even an absolutely water clear finish, like those JR1 mentioned, will make it look a lot darker. Better IMO, but also darker. Like from this: to this: Just wipe it with alcohol or mineral spirits and you will see what I mean.
