Coat Rack - Scoony - 12-25-2015 Need a coat rack for the office. I had a 2x2 stick of walnut sitting around for a few years waiting on the right project. Designed this on the fly and the base was dimensioned off what I felt was minimum width and the pieces of scrap walnut in my scrap stash. This is a combo of power and hand tool. The staff on there is the cut off from the actual staff (laying on the bench. I used this one as a test. Not sure if I am going to leave the bottom flat, or arch it a little. Re: Coat Rack - chips ahoy - 12-25-2015 My vote is to arch it. Looking good so far, keep up the good work. Only a little though. Less is more I think in this instance. Re: Coat Rack - Scoony - 12-25-2015 A slight arch it will get. I had to practice carving a lambs tongue to transition from the square to the beveled corners. Re: Coat Rack - Tapper - 12-25-2015 Looking good! (I like the slight arch idea also). Doug Re: Coat Rack - RedBob - 12-25-2015 Nice joinery and agreed on the arch. How tall will it be when finished? Merry Christmas! Bob Re: Coat Rack - Scoony - 01-04-2016 Finished this up and brought it into work. Lamb's tongue detail Finished with Minwax Antique oil, garnet shellac, and wax. Hangers came from Hobby Lobby. Re: Coat Rack - Tapper - 01-04-2016 Very nice! Doug Re: Coat Rack - Mike_O - 01-05-2016 Nice job on the lamb's tongues. The whole project looks sharp! |
