Band saw tire replacement question - kscott - 01-18-2016 After a lot of years of use the tires on my Jet 18" BS need replacement. I have ordered them from Peachtree and expect them in about a week. I have never replaced BS tires so I have one question. Can it be done on the machine or do I need to take the wheels off and do it? Thanks, Ken Re: Band saw tire replacement question - Herb G - 01-18-2016 You have to take the wheels off to do it. Re: Band saw tire replacement question - kscott - 01-18-2016 Oh, well. Thanks, Ken Re: Band saw tire replacement question - atgcpaul - 01-18-2016 I hadn't planned on removing my wheels but after watching this video, I think that's the way to go. It'll probably be nicer on the bearings, too. https://youtu.be/v2PlUqyVd7Y Re: Band saw tire replacement question - karoc - 01-18-2016 Rubber? Are you going to glue them, does the rims have a built in crown? Re: Band saw tire replacement question - glennw - 01-18-2016 I have to replace one on my 14 inch band saw. I just snapped it the other day. Re: Band saw tire replacement question - Bill Lyman - 01-18-2016 I just replaced the tires on my 14" Powermatic (same, I believe as Jet, but smaller than yours) with the ones shown below. Definitely had to take the wheels off, but really not very difficult - other than persuading the new tires onto the wheel which I did with a very smooth steel rod. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000H69...s=hi&sr=1-1 Re: Band saw tire replacement question - atgcpaul - 01-19-2016 atgcpaul said: I found amother pretty good video. It takes him a while to get to the point but around 3:00 is when he really starts. This is the route I'm going. https://youtu.be/j4etjdqmwz8 Re: Band saw tire replacement question - EvilTwin - 01-19-2016 kscott said: Were those urethane tires on that saw previously and are the rims themselves crowned? If the answer to both is yes, then its a pretty easy job but the new tires may last around 10 years or so then you will be back to square one. Rubber tires will last a lot longer but are more work to put on, especially if they need to be crowned once mounted. Re: Band saw tire replacement question - kscott - 01-19-2016 Exactly what I did. They were very well reviewed so I figured what the heck. Looking forward to screwing it up and having to order another set. Ken Ken |
