Drill chuck for Baldor "dental Lathe" - measure once cut remeasure - 01-21-2016
I would like to attach a chuck to a baldor dental lathe. Then I can use the chuck along with a flexible shaft, for sanding.
Baldor has a version that is a bit pricey, and I'm looking for a more reasonalble alternative.
The specs are mounting hole .37" tapered .25" per foot.
I coudn't find where this equates to any common morse or jacobs taper.
Does anyone know the common name for this taper ?

We on the Canadian woodworkers forum had a lady with a dental lathe and needed some help to be able to polish with it.
Hers was a 70 watt motor, so less than 1/10HP and had maybe enough power for her to polish sharpening her carving tools (that was what she wanted to do), anyway we found out that the taper on those is a special taper for these motors to be able to hold the tools with no other fastening but just the taper flicked onto the shaft, she got these on Ebay for little money

So I would start looking or find a way to use the buffing tapers somehow

The Baldor model 340 has a 1/4 hp motor that should have enough torque for a flexible shaft.

The OP did not mention what type or size the dental lathe was, the one I was talking about was shown on the forum with the motor plate for info, it said: volts 115, cycles 60,watts 70, speeds--,normal speed 3000, serial no. 983
and I would not doubt that there are other ones that have bigger motors, but the question was about the taper, and it is a specific taper used on dental lathes.

Karl I found Dental lathe chucks on ebay, low cost $16.95.
With that you should be able to hold the end of a flexible shaft
