4 foot fluorescent fixture flicker - kscott - 03-01-2016

I turn on the light and sometimes the two bulbs come on right away, sometimes they flicker almost like bands of light going down the tube and then come on and sometimes they just do the flickering thing. Ballast?
Thanks,
Ken

Make sure the tubes are seated in the tombstones correctly before trying anything else.
My bet is they are a little loose.

Will do.

You can also try switching them end-for-end. Sometimes you get a little extra life out of them when they're having a hard time starting, depending on how the tombstones are wired.

If the tube ends are black it's time to look into the LED replacement thread

Or at the very least T8 replacements.

I was told that T8s would not work properly in the older T12 fixtures but mine have worked fine. More light, less electricity.

Eventually I will replace all the fixtures with LEDs but only as they fail.

Did my suggestion work? Just curious.

Haven't tried anything yet. Sick as a dog and flat on my back. Not getting onto a step stool any time soon. I'll post results when I'm back in the game.

just throwing this out there -- they now make "hybrid" LED replacements -- will work with or without ballast.

kinda cool.
