Floating Table Tops - nodima - 03-08-2016 I've recently become enamored with the floating table top concept, and on the list is building a new kitchen table, once my daughter is old enough to stop damaging it. I'm thinking that it would be a good way to scratch that itch. In looking around for ideas and inspiration, it seems that the vast majority of these are either hallway tables, or coffee tables. Is there something I'm missing where a floating top table is a bad idea in the widths commonly used for a kitchen table? Re: Floating Table Tops - TomFromStLouis - 03-08-2016 Well, you are sitting at a dining table so leg room and table height demand an efficient use of the space above your thighs. Floating tops tend to use more of that space, so maybe that is why you do not see them on tables to be used for dining. Maybe you can design around this fact, but I see it as your main challenge. Re: Floating Table Tops - Timberwerks - 03-08-2016 Here are a couple of floaters I made, I think either design could transfer over to a dinning table. https://timberwerks.wordpress.com/2014/03/21/timber-coffee-table/ http://design-milk.com/autumn-hall-table/ Re: Floating Table Tops - jteneyck - 03-08-2016 Lots of examples on Google. It's been done. John Re: Floating Table Tops - nodima - 03-08-2016 Thanks all - I had looked at Google, and even when specifying kitchen or dining, it still showed mostly coffee tables. The leg clearance is definitely something to keep in mind. Thanks again. Re: Floating Table Tops - jteneyck - 03-08-2016 Google "floating top dining table". John |
