Serious skew skills - robo hippy - 03-09-2016 Just discovered this guy, through Mike Waldt, who also does a lot of good turning videos if you haven't seen his. Love the steady rest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BRDGq551PA robo hippy Re: Serious skew skills - theeviltwinn - 03-09-2016 Amazing. He sized everything by eye. Never used calipers. Plus he started sanding with 80 grit. I guess he doesn't feel the need to brag. Re: Serious skew skills - theeviltwinn - 03-10-2016 He passed away about the same time I got in to turning. I seen him demo once at Force Machinery in Norristown but never met him. Twinn Re: Serious skew skills - Arlin Eastman - 03-11-2016 I have watched several older turners (Dennis White, Keith Rowely to name a few) from the UK and Ireland who were marvels at all tools. Each of them encouraged other turners to get to know each tool and what the strengths and weaknesses are and what they are capable of. I have done that with the bowl and spindle gouge and now working on the skew. I can use a skew pretty well but not like them. Arlin |
