Frame saw folks - blackhat - 03-12-2016 Considering building one or two. Thinking bandsaw blades. Yes/no? Can a wood framed saw tension a 1/2" bandsaw blade enough? Re: Frame saw folks - TGW - 03-13-2016 Old time frame saws for joinery often had blades around 40mm or 1 1/2 inch wide. Though I think a bandsaw blade will be unsuitable for other reasons. The tooth pattern isn't suitable in my oppinion and hardened teeth cannot be filed. Some bandsaw blades also seem to be in the thick side. Re: Frame saw folks - Admiral - 03-13-2016 You are better off buying some frame saw blades, and designing your build to fit them. Highland link shows some at 700mm for ECE saws, which is about 27 inches give or take. You can get a xcut and a rip for less than $20, well worth it. And these can be resharpened. http://www.highlandwoodworking.com/bow-saw-frame-saws-blades.aspx Re: Frame saw folks - Window Guy - 03-13-2016 +1 ....... What Richard said. Steve |
