Re: Mahogany highboy - Joe Connors - 04-17-2016

That is one of the most beautiful highboys I've ever seen!
Your execution looks flawless! Can you give us an idea (rough) of how many hours you have in it?

Breathtaking

Re: Mahogany highboy - Paul K. Murphy - 04-17-2016

I can tell you exactly how many hours I have in it.
Zero.
It's in The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
Philadelphia Chippendale.

Re: Mahogany highboy - Richard D. - 04-17-2016

It seems like so much attention was paid to the carving that they forgot about the drawer faces. It looks like a random choice of mediocre wood. I'd like to see it in person.

I see. Normally, unless attributed otherwise, pictures posted are assumed to be from the original poster. Well, my comments still stand. Whoever made that piece did an astounding job!

Sorry. I don't intend to deceive.
Richard D's point is well taken. I don't think I'd use the word mediocre, but there are better examples of wood choice for drawer fronts.
Still, in my view it's a spectacular piece.
