Brush Bristle Kits - Ideas? - HaroldBeck - 07-12-2016

My wife is looking for small brushes that she can give to her quilting friends for Christmas this year. She is looking for something to brush dust and lint out of the works of their sewing machines. She was looking at the shaving brush kits at Penn State Industries and found a brush kit. I am the bad guy as I pointed out that the bristle insert was an inch wide and 4" long.

She is looking for something more like an inch or a little longer by maybe a 1/4" diameter. Have any of you found anywhere to find bristle bunches like this? All I can come up with is reworking some paint brushes from the hobby shop.

Many thanks for any help,

HB

Harold

I have never made them before, but can a brush from a woman's make up do?

You will need to call them to order, but this company provides all kinds of brush fillings:

You might try looking for acid brushes. They are about that size and pretty cheap.

generic at HD

West system at JD

They are a little bigger in width than you are looking for, but it would be easy to get some and see what your wife thinks.

If it was me I would pull the bunch out of a couple of these and fill a hole in the end of a turned handle the size you want and CA them in.

Thanks everyone. I was coming to the conclusion that reworking a donor brush was going to be the way to go.

Thanks again for the input.

Sorry for the huge image, but here's a "Spray gun cleaning kit" I use. Lots of different sized brushes. (black one is size of toothbrush)
