FS: EC Atkins No. 71 18 Inch Panel Saw -- Freshly Sharpened SOLD - enjuneer - 07-23-2016

Saws this special do not come up very often. This is a diminutive E.C. Atkins No. 71 panel saw with an 18 inch long plate. It was one of Atkins' better saws, highlighted by the highly detailed beech wood tote with its well-formed lamb's tongue. It appears in the 1919 Atkins catalog, though this model was likely introduced earlier.

This saw is in amazing condition for being roughly 100 years old. The only apology is that the etch is very faint. The plate has been cleaned and polished, with just a little bit of staining remaining. It is perfectly straight. The tote is as it was found, receiving only a light cleaning to remove dirt and dust. The teeth have been freshly sharpened, needing only a light touch-up to the 9 ppi crosscut teeth. The plate itself was taper ground at the factory, requiring very little set on the teeth. This makes for an easy cutting saw with little tear out.

In one picture, the saw is shown with its 26 inch big brother, the Atkins Rex rip saw.

Bob knowing your back ground I am sure it is a very nice saw and in pristine condition, however the pictures do not show up for me.
