Tortilla Press - southgalawyer - 08-14-2016

Has anyone ever made a Tortilla Press? My brother has asked me to make him one, and they look simple enough. However, I don't want to make any assumptions and end up making something that is not durable enough for regular use. Any suggestions about wood choices, or does that even matter much? Also, most of the ones I see online use simple utility hinges...would a piano hinge be stronger or more durable?
Thanks for your help!

That press would get you started easier, then thin it down with the rolling pin.

But that depends on how thin you want the tortilla.

I would experiment with some sort of cam configuration on the handle- seems some mechanical advantage would make it easier to press them

A cam handle makes sense to me too...seems like it should be easier to fully press that way -- and avoid having to roll them afterwards.

Sweet, now I can get me some 9" CORN tortillas. They make flour ones big enough to use for bath towels, but corn (my favorite) seem to stop at 6"
