USA Made PM 66s - JerrySats - 08-26-2016

Those of you that have the USA made Powermatic 66's , did they come with a riving knife ?

No. 66's never had a riving knife. When they came out with the PM2000, they sent the production overseas, and started outfitting that model with a riving knife.

Not sure how you could easily get one on a 66 as the part that holds the splitter is independent of the vertical movement of the blade positioning.

Ive seen guys that build it into the throat plates, but thats not a true riving knife but gets the job done if you keep the blade at a consistent height.

PM 66's didn't come with a riving knife.  Powermatic introduced them in their PM2000 saws.  Every TS sold in the US today requires a riving knife.

I think I have one of the last PM 66's.  Nice saw, sometimes I wish I had held out for one with a riving knife.

No Irving knife on mine but the Beismeyer splitter works very well.

Rick
Are they like the micro jig splitters?

Not sure what your referring to but the Beis seems a bit large to me. Fairly easy to install and cost me about 125.00 around 15 yrs ago.

Looks like I have to relearn how to post a pic.

Maybe a url instead:

I went through this when I picked up my mid-80s 66 last year. The three splitter set from these guys is excellent.

The tall and medium come with pawls. The pawls are fitted with a quick release system, so you can pop them off and on easily. You can also get a quick release for the splitter mount itself (behind the blade), so you can swap or remove the entire thing pretty much instantly. The lowest splitter extends about 1/2" above the table. So no, you won't get a true riving knife -- but you get some decent options.

Also, Lee Styron turns out to be a great guy to do business with.

I've had great success with Lee on a few purchases. I believe beside using great quality as his standard, his success is his awesome communication. He will do the back and forth until you feel comfortable, and if he says it will work, it will
