What is whitewood - Cecil - 10-22-2016 I see that Lowes sells both whitewood and pine in common grade. They are two different prices, so I assume they are different. I don't go to Lowes often, since they are not convenient for me. Therefore I have not looked to see if I can tell the difference. I have come to ask the experts. What is whitewood compared to pine. RE: What is whitewood - AgGEM - 10-22-2016 Truly coincidental, I was prowling the 2x4's at HD tonight and looking at prices....and noted the "whitewood" at the lowest price. I wondered too, what it is. Ag RE: What is whitewood - MikeBob - 10-22-2016 No real help here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitewood Tulip Poplar, which my first guess, a Poplar. Ag RE: What is whitewood - MsNomer - 10-22-2016 Otherwise known as junk wood. RE: What is whitewood - Paul K. Murphy - 10-22-2016 Yes. It's usually junk. Whitewood isn't anything particularly, just some hardwood or other. I think in my thirty six year career, I've never bought anything sold as "whitewood." If you need glue blocks or something, maybe you can use it. Otherwise you will do fine if you never buy any of it. It ain't prized material.
