Great old vise - SteveF - 11-05-2016

I just snagged this last Sunday, a Wyman & Gordon 9" quick release vise. It's a beast, 38 lbs 6oz. You hold the handle straight up to open it. First time I've ever seen one of these.

Great find, looks very similar to a Sheldon quick action vise, have one that is by far my favorite metal vise.....just place an item in, slide the vise closed and slightly turn the handle to the desired clamping pressure!

Wish Beechcraft, or someone, would come up with a leg vise based off that design/functionality......

Actually Hovarter Custom Vises makes a quick release leg vise mechanism and paired with the chain kit I sell or 'cross from Benchcraft or Hovarter you will have a quick release leg vise.

Nice find Steve.

Wyman Gordon began in 1883 and is still in business. They have always done precision forgings as a specialty. Yours is a really nice vise. My guess is that its target market was production furniture manufacturing.
