walking stick hardware - JerrySats - 12-07-2016 I need to turn a 2 piece walking stick and need some hardware to couple the two halves . Does anyone have a good source for hardware ? TIA Jerry RE: walking stick hardware - iclark - 12-08-2016 I have not tried either of these, but Lee Valley is always a good source for me. http://www.leevalley.com/en/hardware/page.aspx?p=41005&cat=3,41306,41319 http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=32835&cat=1,250,43243 RE: walking stick hardware - Steve K - 12-08-2016 Years ago, WOOD magazine had a walking stick project in their magazine, a quick search tells me it was in the Mar. 2000 issue. Anyway, I made one and then made several for gifts. To my knowledge they are all still being used, my wife and I still use ours when we walk. They were two piece and joined just with a piece of 3/8" all thread and a threaded insert. Mel RE: walking stick hardware - JerrySats - 12-08-2016 Steve did you use a steady rest when you turned them? What type of insert did you use? I saw the hardware from LV I was concerned that the length of the mating screws wasn't long enough to give the stick strength. RE: walking stick hardware - Steve K - 12-08-2016 The stick in the WOOD plan is actually made in four pieces so the longest one is maybe only two feet or so. A steady rest wasn't necessary and that was by design. The insert was just a brass insert from the local hardware. RE: walking stick hardware - AHill - 12-08-2016 You can also try Craft Supply USA. https://www.woodturnerscatalog.com/t/64/Walking-Sticks RE: walking stick hardware - chips ahoy - 12-08-2016 (12-08-2016, 09:30 AM)JerrySats Wrote: Steve did you use a steady rest when you turned them? the screw was plenty long to give the stick strength,I never had an issue with the ones I made. Mel Thanks I'll give that one a try and see how it goes . RE: walking stick hardware - crokett™ - 12-09-2016 sounds like you may have a solution, but a few years ago I repaired a 2-piece stick that my dad had with parts similar to what iclark linked to. The stick is still working fine as far as I know. |
