Walnut table top progress - rick4212 - 12-08-2016 I'm in the process of making a walnut dining room table. This is a picture after rough sanding and putting mineral spirits to get an idea of what the grain will look like. Book matched walnut boards from a large tree that i cut down 2 years ago. 42" x 87" x 1.5". I think the grain came out well. Still have a lot to do to the top but couldn't wait any longer to see what it's going to look like. Doing a mockup of the base to see how it looks with the top so i can finalize the base dimensions and look. RE: Walnut table top progress - Alan S - 12-09-2016 That ought to keep you going. Looks great! RE: Walnut table top progress - MikeBob - 12-09-2016 Whats the base look like? Then then is all those chairs to make!! Top looks great. RE: Walnut table top progress - Stwood_ - 12-09-2016 Nice grain match RE: Walnut table top progress - Joel H. - 12-09-2016 That is an absolutely beautiful table top. Bet its a bear to wrestle around. Trestle legs with stretcher? Joel RE: Walnut table top progress - rick4212 - 12-09-2016 Yes it will be a trestle legs with stretcher base. RE: Walnut table top progress - Hank Knight - 12-09-2016 Wow! That is stunningly beautiful. How did you flatten/smooth it? RE: Walnut table top progress - rick4212 - 12-09-2016 Put it through the jointer on one side and hand plane the other side. I have a 12" jointer so was able to do half then turn it around and did the other half.
